Seasonal Bushfire Outlook

The AFAC Seasonal Bushfire Outlook is released quarterly and identifies areas of increased risk of fire so communities are aware and primed to take appropriate action.

The AFAC Seasonal Bushfire Outlook is not a prediction of where and when bushfires will occur. Dangerous bushfires can happen outside of traditional fire season periods and in locations with normal risk of fire.

Resource categories

Fire management is a year-round process. The AFAC Seasonal Bushfire Outlook reflects the priorities in each state and territory given the expected climate conditions.

Increased bushfire risk depends on many factors including weather and climate, fuel amount and availability, vegetation types, recent fire and disturbance history, natural and human barriers, and how quickly and effectively firefighting resources are able to suppress fires in an area.

Fire risk can vary greatly, even at the smaller scale and between bordering states and territories.
