The National Statistics for false alarms are reported on annually at the UFAN meeting. Members reviewed the 2012 – 2013 statistics and discussed the overall trend (reduction). MFB is leading this activity for the group.

Matters discussed included:
- The National Statistics for false alarms are reported on annually at the UFAN meeting. Members reviewed the 2012 – 2013 statistics and discussed the overall trend (reduction). MFB is leading this activity for the group.
- An update was provided on AS1670 as there is a proposal for new residential alarm systems. Members discussed the standard and agreed to work out of session on the feedback that will be provided by the Network to the standards committee.
- Victorian Fire Services legislation on isolations was discussed and MFB is leading this area with the preparation of the guideline titled ‘Managing Monitored Automatic Alarm Systems in accordance with fire services‘ legislation’ and to date have received positive feedback from the industry (Building owners and managers).
- Fire & Rescue NSW presented to members regarding Alarm Acknowledgement and Alarm Investigation, which highlighted the number of false alarm call outs to major public facilities and the strategies that have successfully reduced the number of call outs.
- FPAA attended the meeting to discuss the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme that they are developing and will be implementing in the near future. It was acknowledged that this piece of work touches on a number of Australian Standards and that member agencies had their own systems currently in place that the proposed scheme is designed to address. Agreement between UFAN and FPAA to continue communication.
