This guideline provides nationally agreed, and evidence based community messaging for AFAC members on safety considerations for lithium-ion batteries. These messages are designed to provide communities with best practice information and advice on fire safety around devices containing lithium-ion batteries.
The Community safety messages and considerations for lithium-ion guideline focuses on providing public information and should not be considered as a judgment on the values or otherwise of EVs, charging infrastructure and lithium-ion batteries. While the messages are based on best practice, they do not account for the specific requirements when communicating to specific target groups, such as culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
It excludes the environmental, social and economic issues associated with emerging technologies. The doctrine excludes operational considerations and guidance should be sought from within agencies on the response to incidents involving lithium-ion batteries.
