The Advanced Hydrogen Training for Emergency Responders is now live
AFAC is pleased to announce that the new online Advanced Hydrogen Training for Emergency Responders course is now live.
The Advanced Hydrogen Training for Emergency Responders course is designed for Australian career and volunteer emergency response, fire and rescue personnel, as well as non-operational team members. This training addresses an identified gap in essential emergency responder capability and provides guidance on how to respond to incidents involving:
- hydrogen heavy vehicles, including a fuel cell electric vehicle truck and bus, and their associated components
- hydrogen refuelling stations, including identifying site layout, hazards, safety zones, venting behaviour, and hydrogen fire behaviour and response.
This course builds on the content of the Hydrogen Safety Awareness Training Program and assumes this prior knowledge.

AFAC delivered this project alongside Deakin University who led the development of this online course. AFAC and Deakin University would like to thank the key stakeholders and subject matter experts who contributed to the design and development of the course material.
This project was supported by funding from Australian governments through the Energy and Climate Ministerial Council. The funding provided the opportunity to create the training as a critical, foundational step in the development of a safe, reliable hydrogen industry in Australia.
