Our guideline

This guideline related to all classes of buildings that incorporate automated vehicle parking systems (AVPS).

The primary objectives of this guideline were to:

  • describe the specific issues affecting occupant life safety and fire brigade intervention within buildings incorporating automated vehicle parking systems due to an alternative method of vehicle storage;
  • identify the limitations of the relevant building regulations in relation to building solutions that specify the use of automated vehicle parking systems, specifically the deemed to satisfy (DTS) Clause E1.5 of the Building Code of Australia (BCA);
  • identify Clause E1.10 as a relevant DTS clause when designing for automated vehicle parking systems, due to the special fire hazards produced; and provide guidance to practitioners who design and certify building solutions that specify the use of automated vehicle parking systems.
