National Position Catalogue

National Position Catalogue is a library of Resource Types – Position/Role Description and Qualification

About the National Position Catalogue

Currently, resources such as AIIMS, the PUA Public Safety Training Package, the Fire and Emergency Aviation Training and Assessment Framework, and the Emergency Management Professionalisation Scheme supports resource users in identifying and inventorying their resources for capability estimation, planning, and for mobilisation during mutual aid efforts.

AFAC’s National Position Catalogue (Fire and Emergency Services) aims to bring this material together in the same place for the first time, in Australasia, as an easily accessible online platform. The National Position Catalogue (NPC) acknowledges the strengths of the existing resource material as well as the inherent jurisdictional variation in resource types and seeks to provide a consensus-driven framework of commonly agreed definitions based on engagement with agencies from across Australia. It is both a repository and a tool to provide a foundational understanding of the nationally agreed standardised roles for personnel managing, supervising and supporting interstate and international deployment operations in fire and emergency management, undertaken and established by AFAC Members.

Agencies from jurisdictions across Australia can then utilise this catalogue to view consensus-based role descriptions when ordering interstate and international resources under agreements of the AIA.

Note: The National Position Catalogue is intended to be similar in format to the U.S. National Wildfire Coordinating Group’s Position Catalogue and the US FEMA National Qualifications System (NQS).
