Building Capability Through Simulation: research insights into good practice

Building Capability through Simulation reviews the relevant literature on simulation-based training and recommends a range of ways for agencies to optimise and operationalise simulations for their in-house training and targeted learning and development initiatives.

This publication, by Dr Peter Hayes, is the first in a set of resources commissioned and published by AFAC on effective use and development of simulation-based training.

The other resources in the set, currently in development and due for release in late 2015, provide practical guidance on designing and developing simulations.

Simulation-based training is increasingly recognised as an effective training technique, especially for developing the complex knowledge, skills, attitudes and other characteristics (KSAOs) critical to incident management.
