Immediately following the Black Saturday tragedy, and with the approval of the then Victorian State Coroner, and the other relevant Victorian authorities, Australia’s Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (Bushfire CRC) assembled a research team to undertake detailed interviews with over 600 survivors of the event.

In September 2014, the Minister for Industry, the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP announced that, at the end of the current contract period with Industry Skills Councils, the Australian Government will be moving to a more contestable model for the development and maintenance of training packages. In early November, The Minister for Industry released two Discussion Papers for consultation.
