AFAC, working with a number of partners, has for some time demonstrated leadership in the capability and capacity development of emergency management practitioners and technical experts across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
AFAC has a long established commitment to the development and implementation of training competencies and best practice in emergency management operations. In support of ths goal, AFAC and a number of its member agencies have long standing partnerships with fire and emergency service organisations within Pacific Islands countries.
Developing future leaders and incident management (AIIMS) specialists has a primary focus for the work of AFAC in this practice area. Opportunities for professional development for both volunteers and staff are encouraged and supported through various programs.
The Capability Development Strategy recently developed will be a priority for attention in this practice area. AFAC members are concerned about the critical shortage of skilled and capable people to provide emergency management services.
